The Future of Tomorrow
It is that time of year, and Taste of Newton is back. This year promises to be the best yet, so don’t miss out on great times and incredible food.
The purpose of the Taste of Newton is to host a community event that allows everyone in the surrounding areas to discover what their town has to offer. It also helps organizations in Newton make some money. This event is engaging for all ages, and a handful of booths are student-led.
“The kids decided to [participate] because [Taste of Newton] was one of the biggest community events in Newton,” STAND coordinator Tristan Wedd-Jewell said. “They’re really big about getting out in the community and making sure everybody is aware of what STAND is.”
Participating in the Taste of Newton can look different for everyone. Vendors will offer a variety of food to choose from that ranges from different delicacies to full-course meals. The German Club has taken on the task of preparing food for hundreds of people and is tremendously benefiting from it.
“We have a booth for our German Club that sells beer rocks,” German Teacher Anneliese Reichenberger said. “We make bierocks about a week before the Taste of Newton, and we sell those.”
NHS clubs aren’t just benefitting from having a booth, but it allows the community to get an understanding of what NHS is all about. Having booths like these represent NHS and shows everyone what the future holds.
“I definitely think it’s important for high school students to get involved in their communities,” Choir Teacher Amy Ives said. They are just as important as adults in our community, and they can do huge things.”
Taste of Newton is an annual event that people enjoy attending every year. This is a different experience that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s a great way for everyone to meet new people and feel more connected to the community.
“I’ve lived in several communities before and never experienced an event like the Taste of Newton,” Reichenberger said.
